Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest at the northern end of the beautiful Cherohala Skyway with its towering Yellow-Poplars said to be 400 years old and 20 feet in circumference. The forest is part of the bigger Nantahala National Forest. What awaits you here is a nice little hike (2.5 miles) through a lovely setting (3800 acre forest) of amazing trees and mossy tree trunks lying scattered about with trees growing from them. So, don’t walk around just looking up, look down every now and then to find wonderful treasures all around.
Yellow Poplar
It is truly incredible to get to experience these huge trees that defy the odds of nature in their grand old age.

As I said, there are a lot of wonderful things to see in the forest if you look around and take it all in.

TREES
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of Robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
The immortal words of the poet soldier, Joyce Kilmer, that never set foot within the Joyce Kilmer Forest.
There is beauty all around to be found within the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest such as this shadow cast on an old mossy tree. I love the soft feel of it and the abstract shapes. What do you think?

The Cherohala Skyway Art Project is the hot and happening thing right now for Boyd Greene Fine Art. There will be updates coming as it develops. There will be around seven or more paintings with supplemental photos that can be purchased as well. I have not decided yet whether or not I will make giclee prints of the paintings, as I know more I will let you know. Please feel free to join my email blog subscription to keep up to date. I look forward to hearing from you as always and thank you to all of the people that have already signed up.
Good day and many peaceful adventures for you.
