Having Fun Making Art

Nature and wildlife art is one of the most fun occupations or hobbies a person can have. Art has its rules and traditional practices, but those rules and practices can have a negative side if they distract you from finding the peacefulness of a landscape or the fun of a frolicking colt playing in the noonday sun. If rules and traditions distract you from capturing the magic you see in a scene, they become enemies instead of allies to help you in your pursuit of beauty.

Don’t be an artist intimidated by peers, rules and schools of thought that you find in art magazines, ads for art materials, art books, and master artists; whether they are well known or local artists. Believe in yourself and what you have to say. Your artistic expression is a one of a kind treasure that brings new light to old subjects obscured in darkness. By no means am I saying that you shouldn’t study, just don’t let others devalue your voice and take away from your passion for all things creative.

When an artist starts worrying more about technique than the subject they are capturing, that can be really big trouble. A major cause of burnout! It can keep you from enjoying the whole process of creating lasting memories of what you love. Don’t give up art because you don’t think you are good enough. Persevere until you learn to express your vision and you will be rewarded with many admirers. Start slow and master one step at a time. You will find more enjoyment and satisfaction as you learn more about art allowing you to create the paintings that you have dreamed of at night.

As many artists have done before you, you can use your art to make a difference in the natural world you love. Painting your local nature and wildlife subjects can open the eyes of people who view your art to the possibilities around them that they have never noticed. Painting local landscapes and wildlife to sell at art shows can help you and your local natural environment. Capturing unique moments in threatened areas where thoughtless development goes on can help others understand the importance of nature in their community.

Rhythmic Realism's Expression

Nature has an infinite storehouse of creative inspiration waiting to be mined by the passionate creative mind that seeks willingly for jewels unseen. The creative Rhythmic Realist wants to make fine art paintings that are beautiful and unique in their individuality – a painting that no one else has created by a thorough knowledge of oneself.

The rhythmic realist has to control light, background, texture and perspective as does any artist to convey the essence of a subject but the expression comes from within. The feelings they feel about the subject are readily seen by how they execute their brushstrokes and colors.

The Rhythmic Realist awakens their creativity for painting by having a playful childlike experimental approach to making art. They are always exploring for new ideas to broaden their approach to subjects they are passionate about. Innovation drives their creative aspirations.

They definitely take note of the first inspiration they see while out exploring nature for inspirational material. Then they find something else interesting about their subject. Animals and plants are often much like people, the longer they know them the more interesting they become. There is always something else in the infinite world of nature.

How deep will you dig? How far will you go? Are you a pioneer? Are you an adventurous soul looking for peaceful vistas? Try higher and lower viewpoints. Move forward and backwards. Move side to side and around the subject. Play with your subject just as a child does a toy fascinated by its every side.

How can you capture what attracts your attention so others will understand what fascinated you?

Sharing Your Creative Art Vision

When you feel compelled to capture the image of some natural part of the world, you become a possible candidate to use Rhythmic Realism to express your thoughts. When you paint from nature’s storehouse of inspiration, you feel something that sparks a creative intensity in you that must be expressed. Rhythmic Realism is about helping you find a means of realistically depicting what you feel and think about your world in an orderly way.

You paint a subject when you are inspired by it. How do you convey your feelings to others with paint? Do others feel what you do when they look at your paintings? How are you sharing your excitement about the natural world? Is nature exciting to you? Do you dream about unexplored trails?

Nature is home to vast wonders and by sharing your special connection to it through painting you give others insight to the natural world you have personally discovered. Your unique individuality allows you to see the world as none other, which is what you must take pride in and develop. Let your natural abilities and expressions flow through the tip of your brush creating beautiful works of art by stroke genius.

The core values that inspire you to capture a certain subject should never change as this is the greatest quality of art. Keep your art designs simple! Keep It Simple Smart! Capture brief fleeting moments without thought of the value as inspiration is the most priceless of commodities. Be as a child holding your dreams near and dear. Let no one rob you of the creative treasures that reside in your heart.

Connecting with People as a Nature Artist

“Ultimately, agape love should drive every successful creative endeavor; it must become the passion that surpasses all other passions. When you become immersed in a work assignment … but you lack love in your life - your creative aspirations will become out of balance,” Thomas Kinkade.

As a nature and wildlife artist, how can I connect with people that are no longer connected to the natural world? Can my art be meaningful to a world that grows ever more detached from nature? What is the value of my art to a world with ever shrinking unmolested landscapes that have not been touched by the world’s population explosion?

1.  I do my best to connect with a subject as I paint it in hopes of it being so beautifully simple that people can easily understand and appreciate the fine art I create. If I can depict the personality of an animal in the way I render its eyes, gesture, and shadows, I’m most successful.

2.  When I paint one of nature’s subjects, I discover so many wondrous things about the subject of interest. Finding a way with paint to focus my attention on a certain perspective of a subject brings my attention to interesting qualities often never considered before. Words cannot describe how an artist connects with a subject as they render its likeness on canvas.

Often I relive the experience that brought me to paint a certain subject when I look back on it later. It is this wonderful experience that I hope to share with people as mutual lovers of the natural world.

One of the greatest benefits of being an artist is sharing the magic I find exploring woodland trails and area farms: helping others to see the connection with nature that they can have. When others see my art they too have a chance to connect with the subjects I’ve bonded with through hours of study with my paint brush.

Passionate Art Expression

When you travel to beautiful locations around the world you want to remember them; so you take photos to commemorate the sense of place you experience.

The Rhythmic Realist not only wants to remember wonderful places and occasions, they want to share it with others through their chosen fine art medium. They seek to reveal their strong feelings by developing their skills through study, research and practice. Like a great novelist a creative realist seeks to develop their visual vocabulary to communicate with their viewers in a simple style that is easily understood. The creative realist takes pride in what they have to say in their own unique way.

Rhythmic Realism starts with the realistic development of a subject and is summed up with passionate expressions by an artist citing their inspiration from the subject. The Rhythmic Realist comes to love their special way of looking at things; because this acceptance of themselves as special individuals teaches them more about themselves than they ever imagined they could learn in a lifetime.

The Rhythmic Realist expresses themselves with thick paint, dry-brushing, washes and a myriad of other ways; but you always know them by how they lay themselves out boldly for you to see their every thought. At the core of their art is their ever abiding love of natural beauty which they seek constantly to reveal through knowledge, understanding and wisdom.

Appreciating Nature in Art

What do you love about nature and wildlife, and how can you express that?

What is it about being in nature that makes your life so wonderful?

What is it that thrills you about watching a fawn frolic about an open field?

Why do the antics of a young calf tickle you to no end?

You have a unique experience in nature that only you can share with others to heighten their experiences in the wilds they explore.  For you capturing nature in your unique way is not just about finding a magical subject, but it is about connecting with the life around you to affect not only yourself but the viewer.

What are some ways that nature attracts you?

Nature is the wonderland of the imagination holding treasures wherever you seek, from mountain sunsets to the shining shores of the ocean to the dew covered grass petals and dragonflies of the meadow. Nature has an unlimited supply of inspiration for the imaginative thinker, so, what you love about wilderness areas doesn’t have to be the same thing that attracts other’s attention.

The act of capturing nature in your unique way is an act of appreciation and that process nurtures feelings of appreciation for nature. The artist that studies animals to depict them with a deep respect for their individual personalities and accuracy in their unique body structures; learns to understand in a special way the animals they paint.

Let what you are attracted to in nature guide you to the creations of your dreams.
