Innovation Inspiration for Artist's
Monday, September 13, 2010 at 2:46PM 1. As creative individuals, we should all be constantly looking for inspiration in other artist’s work. I study the works of Michelangelo, David, Titian, Carravagio and Rembrandt all the time. I love looking at the portfolios of great photographers such as Clyde Butcher and Mark Graf as well. I love going to the Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville, Georgia to explore thier wide range of western art.
2. Open up a book to a random page to see how what you read relates to what you are working on at the moment.
3. Go hiking!
4. Meet someone new and strike up a conversation.
5. Swap artistic mediums on your next project.
6. Use a palette knife instead of a brush or vice versa.
7. Use a different type of brush. I almost always use a flat or a palette knife.
8. Sculpt in clay or putty what you are going to paint or draw.
9. Carve a subject before you draw it. This is something that really helped me to think three dimensionally.
10. Use an art manikin to explore different poses for a portrait.
11. Make a wire sculpture of the subject that you are to paint.
12. Ask for other people’s advice and ideas. My buddy Ian is a huge help to me on many projects.
13. Be always at Christ’s creative studio seeing the wonders of His wisdom and endless imagination.
14. Seek out the unique.
15. Look past the obvious.
16. Dig below the surface.
