The “Power of Art” is a BBC documentary series written and presented by British professor of history and art history Simon Schama of Columbia University. Each of the one hour episodes examines the biography of an artist and a definitive piece of work coinciding with a turning point in their lives.

The BBC’s take on this series is, “This is not a series about things that hang on walls, it is not about decor or prettiness. It is a series about the force, the need, the passion of art … the power of art.”
If you love great art documentaries I think you’ll love this one. I’ve read Simon Schama’s book “Rembrandt’s Eyes” and highly recommend it as well. Simon Schama has a way of making you feel as though he knows what artists sought to convey through their art; it is as if he were a close confidant of each artist earning their trust and thereby finding out their deepest secrets.
