The Two Friends Pen and Ink Rose Drawing

The Two Friends are roses once again from my mother’s flowerbeds. I thought their shapes were very beautiful even though they had started to get spots from aging. Therefore, I decided to render them in pen and ink.

Drawing is a lot of fun for me as it allows me to experiment with different textures and techniques that could be beneficial to me in some painting. That is why my drawings are so diverse and exploratory.

In addition, I love black and white photography such as Clyde Butcher’s and this draws me to pen and ink renderings as well. I believe that there is great beauty in simplicity.

I think these two roses typify true friendship where one or the other is content to let the other have their day in the limelight even if the light is not on them. Both have their beauties and we need each of their qualities at times. It would be a better world if we all could be content to let those about us shine when we are in the shadow of their light.

Thank you for your time and for your interest.
