Passion Rose Fully Revealed Oil Painting
Thursday, July 24, 2008 at 5:42PM Passion Rose is another in the line of my Simple Realism oil paintings. Yet Passion Rose is not just another but a teacher that has advanced my understanding of art a great deal. Just as woodcarving advanced my depth perception this rose has extended my vision to new creative levels.
The greatest asset I have as an artist is my reliance on my Lord Jesus Christ’s creative ability as very little resides within me. He blows me away with all of His fathomless mysteries revealed through prayer, meditation and hard work. I promise you, if I can accomplish what little that I have which is much when applied to me, you can do incredible things that will absolutely shock you if you will only begin your journey. It takes a first step though! You must make an effort.
Quite possible it is that the rose has inspired more creativity than any other flower. Consider the number of paintings, photographs, poems, books, plays, songs and so much more that has the delicate petals and the tingly thorn as its theme.
Assuredly, this rose has inspired me greatly. I probably spent as much or more time preparing to paint this gorgeous delight as I did painting it. It was time well spent as the painting went quite smoothly.
The rose was one from a florist friend that had been treated a little rough which made it a great subject for this painting as it is the downtrodden that most need the light of hope.
Passion Rose Original Oil Painting 36”x24”
This is the first still life I’ve done in a very long time. I loved getting to play with the different lighting angles and the myriad of effects a little changing made to the mood of the rose.
Thank you everyone from Boyd Greene Fine Art for stopping by it is much appreciated. Thank you as well to Rain Tree Art Gallery and Florist on East Brainerd Road in Chattanooga, Tennessee for their help in picking out this wonderful rose.

The lines flow beautifully. Nothing in this says stark - or contrasts - it is as lovely for what it does not do as it is for what it has done. I looked through your earlier works and I can see vast improvement. How do you make a flower meld seamlessly into the background? In this painting you did that. (this tells me that you seriously considered your colors) it is beautiful!
The second thing I love is; had you simply titled it "rose" you can still easily see that passion drove this work. (Like the way the leaves fall - almost in mourning. Is it envy of the regal blossom or are they mourning something else?)With the name it is impossible to not connect it to your faith - and if this is a statement a testimony to your faith you have expressed it wonderfully and (and this is important) honestly. Beautiful.
