Cherohala Skyway Photographs

Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest at the northern end of the beautiful Cherohala Skyway with its towering Yellow-Poplars said to be 400 years old and 20 feet in circumference. The forest is part of the bigger Nantahala National Forest. What awaits you here is a nice little hike (2.5 miles) through a lovely setting (3800 acre forest) of amazing trees and mossy tree trunks lying scattered about with trees growing from them. So, don’t walk around just looking up, look down every now and then to find wonderful treasures all around.

 It is truly incredible to get to experience these huge trees that defy the odds of nature in their grand old age.

TREES

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of Robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

The immortal words of the poet soldier, Joyce Kilmer, that never set foot within the Joyce Kilmer Forest.

There is beauty all around to be found within the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest such as this shadow cast on an old mossy tree. I love the soft feel of it and the abstract shapes. What do you think?

The Cherohala Skyway Art Project is the hot and happening thing right now for Boyd Greene Fine Art. There will be updates coming as it develops. There will be around seven or more paintings with supplemental photos that can be purchased as well. I have not decided yet whether or not I will make giclee prints of the paintings, as I know more I will let you know. Please feel free to join my email blog subscription to keep up to date. I look forward to hearing from you as always and thank you to all of the people that have already signed up.

Good day and many peaceful adventures for you.

These photo's are great! They remind me of a young photographer form the late 70's (was you influenced by his work?)

Hmm. Not just a talented painter, but a photographer too! All are beautiful, but I am especially drawn to the stump bathed in golden light. Very nice.

Boyd, these are beautiful images! All through my childhood, my mother had a framed copy of Joyce Kilmer's poem about trees. I memorized it when I was in third grade. I had no idea there was a Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest. Thanks--it was a nice discovery!

A really beautiful collection here. One feels that they have been out for a long, meandering, breathtaking walk along a path of intimate and panoramic scenes. Thank you.

Your photos are superb and so are your paintings. I looked you up after you made a comment on the Alertedeye blog. I'm a painter and really appreciate your very mature artistic sense that pulls everything together at once - composition, light, spatial tension, pattern, et cetera et cetera. I love the particularity you bring to a pencil drawing and I find the technique you are using to express flowers is quite handsome.Bravo!What medium are you using for your paintings?K

Old Holland and Blockx oil paints with amber being my only medium usually. Sometimes maroger and wax but rare.

Thank you for your inspiring comments. It is always nice to see yourself through another's eyes.
